Lockdown / Reopening Statement

Jun 19, 2020 | News

Dear Friends,

Shelly and I hope that you are all fit and well. We are so overwhelmed and grateful for the sheer number of cards, letters, emails and phone calls we have been receiving wishing us the best and checking how we are managing during Lockdown.

We have received a lot of telephone calls and emails lately asking about upcoming summer reservations so we thought it might be useful if we try to explaining what we know, what we expect, and what our plans are for the coming months.

First of all, as many of you will know Wales is still currently in lockdown and the next announcement regarding how Wales is to proceed will be made on 19th June 2020. So, until then we cannot provide anything concrete.

Shelly and I believe that hotels and B&B’s will be some of the last businesses allowed to open but we have heard talk of the UK government aiming to start easing Hospitality related restrictions at some point in July – assuming there is no second wave before then. At The Annan Hotel customer safety and the customer experience is our highest priority (that is why we were one of the first hotels in Llandudno to close at the start of the pandemic), and we are concerned that when the lockdown is initially eased Llandudno will be overrun with people into the area – increasing the risk of spread.

Whilst we would ensure that inside the Hotel was as hygienic and safe as possible, we are concerned that, A.) The high footfall in the area will pose the risk of further spread. And, B.) The guest experience will not be as good as normal.

Therefore, we have come to the decision that regardless of what is announced in the coming weeks, we will not be opening the hotel during June but also during July. We will monitor how things develop and if the overall environment becomes safer, we will aim for an August opening (depending upon approval by the Welsh Assembly).

Obviously, for any guests with reservations in June or July who wish to rearrange to a later date please let us know and for any customers who have paid a deposit and would like to move that deposit to a future booking that would really be appreciated. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but at present we feel that things are still too uncertain and we are not happy to take any risks with our guests’ lives or offer a service that does not reflect the true standards our guests have come to expect from staying at The Annan Hotel.

If you have any questions please feel free to either ring us on (01492) 877 159 or email us at: [email protected]

Please stay safe!

Best wishes,

Ian & Shelly.
